Staying in the Strawbale Barn

Just three miles from / Along the coastpath from the Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey, this unique self-catering holiday accommodation has the continental feel of rural Tuscany or Provence with its ochre limewashed walls and hand-crafted wooden kitchen. Pengelly strawbale studio barn is a beautifully rustic space close to the family friendly swimming beaches at Portmellon and Gorran Haven. But it is so much more interesting and exotic than the traditional Cornish Holiday Cottage!

You have the luxury of a king-sized bed, monsoon shower and super comfy sofa to sink into by the huge woodburner while harmoniously embedded in nature with all the joys of eco living. The glass doors and large sunny private deck with table, chairs and bench overlook Cotna Eco Retreat’s Cornish organic apple orchard and the wooded valley beyond. Our friendly creatures will make you feel welcome; cats and spaniels, a tame flock of ducks, swallows nesting in the eaves and bats flitting by at night under the brightest stars.

You can walk down through Cotna Eco Retreat’s woodland to the sea where you can join the coast path at Portmellon, hire paddle boards and kayaks, swim, enjoy great coffee, the best pasties and home-made cakes at The Shack. Or have a pint at the Rising Sun pub as the sun sets.

Just 5 minutes up our track is the excellent Barley Sheaf Pub at Gorran Churchtown for a drink and its Michelin listed menu. Or you can simply sit on your holiday accommodation’s deck, breathe in the air and enjoy organic home-prepared food from Cotna hampers for breakfast and dinner. With Dave’s home-made beer or apple juice, Sara’s elderflower cordial or a bottle of wine, how much better can it get?
