Yoga, Meditation & Sustainable Living in Gorran Haven, Cornwall

Tucked away in a peaceful valley near the fishing village of Gorran Haven on Cornwall’s south coast, Cotna Eco Retreat is a place to slow down, reconnect, and simply be. Surrounded by orchards, meadows, and ancient Cornish hedgerows, Cotna is a living, breathing example of harmony between people and nature.

Here, life moves at a gentler pace. You can begin your day with yoga and meditation, wander through the organic gardens, or take a mindful walk along the coastal paths. Whether you come for a retreat, a short break, or a period of quiet reflection, Cotna offers the space to rest, recharge, and rediscover what truly matters.

Living in Harmony with the Land

Cotna Eco Retreat has grown from a shared dream to live sustainably, care for the earth, and create a place of sanctuary for others. Our smallholding follows permaculture principles, meaning everything we do works with nature rather than against it.

From solar energy and spring water to composting toilets and organic gardens, every part of Cotna has been thoughtfully designed to nurture the land. The vegetables, fruits, and herbs we grow feed both our bodies and our sense of connection to the earth.

We believe in simplicity, authenticity, and mindful living — values that shape every aspect of life here.

Stay in Nature

Guests can choose from a variety of eco-friendly accommodations, each hand-crafted and nestled in its own private corner of the valley.

  • Yurts – Spacious and beautifully furnished, our yurts offer a warm, natural space to unwind.
  • Shepherd’s Hut – Cosy and comfortable, perfect for solo travellers or couples seeking stillness.
  • The Roundhouse  – A light-filled, hobbit-style roundhouse, ideal for intensive meditation retreats.

Wherever you stay, you’ll be surrounded by nature — waking to birdsong, watching the stars appear over valley, and feeling the calm that comes from being close to the earth.

Yoga and Meditation at Cotna

Yoga, meditation and nature connection practice are at the heart of the Cotna experience. We offer support for solo retreatants throughout the year — from beginners to experienced practitioners. This includes delivery of organic food hampers and wholefood supplies including the produce we grow or freshly baked bread in the mornings.

Morning yoga sessions are ideal as the sun rises over the valley. The emphasis we encourage is always on gentle movement, mindful breathing, and inner awareness rather than physical perfection.

Self-led meditation sessions help you find stillness, whether you are new to the practice or deepening an existing one. Surrounded by the quiet rhythm of the land, meditation here unfolds naturally — under the trees, beside the stream, or in the calm of your our meditation space.

Cotna invites you to come home to yourself, to breathe deeply, and to listen to the wisdom that nature offers.

Nourishment from the Garden

At Cotna, food is more than sustenance — it’s part of the retreat experience. Our kitchen and gardens work hand in hand, following the seasons and celebrating the abundance of local, organic produce.

We grow much of our own fruit and vegetables using permaculture methods, and we supplement with produce from trusted local growers. Food is vegetarian, fresh, and full of flavour, often including ingredients picked just moments before cooking.

Enjoyed quietly looking over the valley, each meal is a reminder of how good simple, honest food can be. We also host cooking and foraging workshops, giving guests a chance to connect more deeply with the food we grow and eat.

While Cotna’s valley offers everything you need for rest and renewal, the surrounding area is full of beauty waiting to be discovered.

A short walk or drive takes you to Gorran Haven, a charming fishing village with a sheltered beach and calm turquoise waters. From there, you can follow the South West Coast Path, exploring dramatic cliffs, secret coves, and breathtaking sea views.

Nearby, you’ll find Vault Beach, known for its peaceful atmosphere, and the magical Lost Gardens of Heligan, where nature and history intertwine. The Eden Project, a celebration of biodiversity and sustainability, is also within easy reach — a perfect complement to Cotna’s eco-conscious ethos.

Sustainability at the Heart of Everything

At Cotna, sustainability isn’t just a feature — it’s the foundation of everything we do. We live and work here as a small community, caring for the land and learning from it every day.

Our energy comes from solar panels, our water from natural springs, and our waste is composted and returned to the soil. We plant trees, nurture wildlife habitats, and continually explore new ways to regenerate the land.

This deep respect for nature shapes not just our way of living, but also the sense of peace guests feel when they arrive. Cotna’s beauty is not manicured or artificial — it’s real, alive, and shared with love.

Your Journey of Renewal

A stay at Cotna Eco Retreat is more than a holiday — it’s a journey of renewal. Here, you can step away from screens and schedules, breathe the clean Cornish air, and remember how to simply be.

Many guests and retreatants tell us they leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected — both to themselves and to the earth. Whether you come for a weekend retreat, a longer stay, or a personal sabbatical, we invite you to slow down and let nature hold you.

Cotna is a place to rest deeply, eat well, move gently, and reconnect with life’s natural rhythm.
